The Detroit Region Aerotropolis initiative is an exciting example of the regional collaboration that is essential to the transformation of southeast Michigan and the state as a whole. A broad range of public and private sector stakeholders across the region have banded together in a genuine partnership to develop the areas between and surrounding Detroit Metropolitan and Willow Run airports into an “airport city.”
This ambitious goal will not happen overnight, and it will not happen without the continued commitment and engagement of the region’s public and private sector leaders. The project is too big for any one community to tackle alone — the development will be spread over multiple parcels and multiple jurisdictions. Wayne and Washtenaw counties, the Wayne County Airport Authority, the seven municipalities in close proximity to the airports, and a host of private sector companies and universities are working diligently to lay the groundwork for what promises to be years of future development and unlimited potential for the state of Michigan.
We are committed to completing the planning and strategy development process in a collaborative and team-oriented approach. Our team is comprised of a diverse group of thought leaders from the public and private sectors and academia. All have a deep passion and commitment to transforming the region.
With the ongoing commitment to regional collaboration, the Detroit Region Aerotropolis will continue to take shape and serve as a beacon for the unlimited potential of our region.
